I finally saw someone say yes to every single client request for a month straight

At our local freelancer meetup in Denver last week, this graphic designer bragged about working 70 hour weeks doing exactly what clients asked and now she's in urgent care with heart palpitations. Has anyone else seen this "always say yes" mindset backfire for people you know?

Watched a buddy crash hard after three months of never saying no.

People really don't get that saying no protects your reputation. Taking everything just means you burn out and start doing bad work. Then everyone remembers the bad work, not the good stuff you did before. It's way smarter to pick your projects and do them well. Quality over quantity always wins in the long run.

Oh man, that's rough! I knew this web developer in Austin who took every single project that came his way for about six weeks. He ended up missing three deadlines in a row and his reputation actually got worse, not better (his clients started complaining about quality dropping off). It's like people forget that saying no is sometimes the smartest business move you can make.
