Bought a $300 bearing press kit after years of using homemade tools
I used to press headset cups in with a threaded rod and some washers. It worked, but it was never quite straight. The kit was a big cost for a small shop, but it saves me about ten minutes per bike and the results are perfect every time. I don't miss the feeling of a cup going in crooked and having to start over. Anyone have a favorite brand for the removal side of things?

Wait you used a THREADED ROD for headset cups. That is some serious old school dedication right there. I would have lost my mind after the first crooked one.

Oh man, @shane_morgan, that sounds like a nightmare. How many tries did it take to get them straight?

Wasn't there a trick about using a big socket and a mallet for that? I read it in some forum years ago. Seems easier than messing with a threaded rod all day.
