Warning: saw three shops in Portland switch to flat rate tune ups and customers are not happy
Stopped by a shop on SE Division last week to grab some housing and the guy at the counter was quoting a flat $95 for a basic tune, no matter what the bike needed. I get why shops do it, it's predictable money and saves time on the phone, but he admitted most folks walk out feeling like they got charged the same for a quick derailleur tweak as the guy who needed a full bearing overhaul. My crew does flat bids on paint jobs too so I see both sides, but on bikes the work varies way more than people think. Curious if any of you have made that switch and what your repeat customer rate looks like after.
