I used to skip the first season of a show if the reviews were mixed, but a friend in Denver called me an idiot for missing the setup.
He said 'you're missing the whole character foundation' after I complained about not getting a plot twist in season 2. Anyone else forced to change a dumb viewing habit?

Check the first three episodes to see if the vibe works for you. I agree with @kim_hall80 that sometimes a shaky start is just a shaky start, not a setup for something great. Your time is worth more than forcing yourself through a whole bad season.
