My cousin told me to skip the first season of The Bear and I'm so mad I listened
He said it was 'too slow' and to just start with season 2. I did, and I was totally lost on all the character stuff and the restaurant drama. I had to go back and watch the whole first season anyway to figure out what was going on. Has anyone else gotten bad advice about where to start a show?

Starting anywhere but the beginning rarely works out.

Oh man, that's just not true. Ever tried a movie by starting in the middle? It's a mess. Some things you gotta jump into.

Yeah the "too slow" advice is what gets me. I read an article once that called first seasons the foundation, and if you skip it the whole thing feels shaky. Your cousin robbed you of all that tension building up to the finale. It's like someone giving you a book and telling you to tear out the first few chapters.
