Actually, had a similar thing happen last field season. What worked for me was using a little isopropyl alcohol on the port contacts with a q-tip, then letting it evaporate. It displaced the water and cleaned the contacts at the same time. Fired right up after that.

Tried the cheap hostel route once to save cash. Ended up in a room that was basically a closet with a bunk bed. The window looked straight into a brick wall. Felt like I was paying to stay in a broom closet. My own fault for not checking the photos close enough.
