Hot take: the hype around solo board games is getting out of hand

I was at Dice House in Sacramento last Saturday and heard a guy swear WINGS OF GLORY solo mode was better than any multiplayer game out there. I get it, solo play is convenient, but since when did we start treating a tabletop session like a meditation app? I have 14 solo titles that just collect dust because half the fun for me is watching someone else lose on purpose. Has anyone else noticed the forums acting like cooperative or competitive play is some obsolete chore?

Man, "treating a tabletop session like a meditation app" is spot on (that line got me). I bought a solo dungeon crawler last month and returned it after one play, I need the chaos of someone else grabbing the last resource or gloating over a lucky roll, otherwise it's just paperwork with dice.

Ha! @alex820, you just described my entire solo gaming history (which is basically me buying cool boxes and then staring at them like a confused puppy). I swear I've got a whole shelf of "me vs. the rulebook" adventures that turned into me making up voices for the monsters just to feel alive. Nothing beats that shared panic when someone snatches the last healing potion right under your nose, even if it means we're all doomed.
