PSA: Organizing your game nights by theme beats a random pick every time

We used to just pull games off the shelf at my group in Portland, but last month we tried a 'worker placement only' night. We played Lords of Waterdeep, Viticulture, and a new one called Dune: Imperium. The whole night felt way more focused and people got into deeper strategy talk because the core ideas were the same. What's the best themed game night you've ever put together?

Wait, your group in Portland had Dune: Imperium just sitting on the shelf as a random pick? That's a heavy hitter. I'm shocked you weren't already fighting to play that one every week. Themed nights are smart, but man, that game is an event. Best one we did was a pure bluffing night. Coup, Sheriff of Nottingham, Skull. Just hours of lying to our friends. It got brutal.

Pure bluffing nights sound like a quick way to lose friends, honestly. I heard about a group that had to ban Coup for a month after their last one.

Sounds like they learned the hard way that friendship has a lower limit than their bluffing skills.
