An old timer in a Pittsburgh yard told me to always tap the flange twice before the final weld.

I mean, he said it was for luck and to check the fit, but idk, maybe it's just me but I've done it ever since and it seems to work.

My grandpa had a rule about tapping his pipe three times before lighting it. It's the same kind of rhythm that gets into your hands and makes the work feel solid. Those little habits build the muscle memory for a clean job.

Honestly, it's the only way that makes sense. Glad I'm not the only one.
