Last book club debate about Chapter 3 of 'Project Hail Mary' got heated
My friend Sarah flat out refused to believe Ryland could survive the astrophage radiation that long, she pulled out a calculator and did the math right there at the table. Have any of you had a member derail the whole meeting with hard science?

Oh man, the physics guy in my group ruined the whole night by proving the gravity stuff was wrong.

Oh man, I bet the person who wrecked it was the one who actually checked the book's timeline. Most people arguing about the science totally miss that the whole story takes place outside normal physics anyway, like the astrophage itself breaks known science. That's where it gets wild, because if you accept the made-up energy source, then the radiation levels could be hand-waved too. I'd ask your friend if she'd also run the numbers on how the beetle accelerates, since that doesn't add up with real propulsion either. It's funny how we pick one thing to get stuck on and ignore the rest of the fantasy.
