Showerthought: picking our next book took our club 45 minutes last night
We got stuck arguing over literary fiction versus a thriller, and I had to make a spreadsheet with voting options to break the deadlock. Anyone have a smoother method for choosing when the group splits like that?

That spreadsheet is peak group decision making.

Funny enough, I used to agree with Hannah. All those tabs and colors looked like chaos. But watching my kid's school committee use one changed my mind. They had a sheet for the bake sale, and every parent could add what they'd bring or when they could help. Instead of fifty emails, you just looked at the doc. It actually got things done. The mess is just everyone having a say, and then you sort it out.

Peak group decision making? That spreadsheet looks like a mess to me. It's just a bunch of people putting in their own ideas with no real plan. Feels more like avoiding a choice than actually making one.
