Spent $40 on a special edition of 'The Three-Body Problem' for our club and it caused a huge fight.
I bought the version with extra author notes thinking it would help our talk, but half the group said the notes spoiled the plot twists. Now our whole schedule is messed up because we have to re-read parts without the notes. Has your book club ever had a fight over which edition of a book to use?
Heard a podcast where a club let people choose their own format. They said focusing on the story itself kept things friendly. Might be worth trying if your group gets tense again.
Yeah, picking one edition sounds smart after a split like that. I saw laura_wilson's point too, about focusing on the story. Maybe the real trick is just agreeing not to argue over the format at all?
