I finally changed my mind about using PVA over wheat paste

For 5 years I swore by wheat paste for my cloth bindings. But I watched a YouTube guy from Hollander's show how PVA holds up way better on heavy boards 3 years later without any yellowing. I tested it myself on a sketchbook from 2022 and he was right - the PVA side still looks clean while the wheat paste has that dried crust. Anyone else made the switch and regretted it or am I late to the party?

You tested it yourself on a sketchbook from 2022" - did you seal the wheat paste?

My buddy Mike tried the same thing last year. He didn't seal it and the whole thing peeled off in two weeks.

Honestly, I gotta push back on that a little. @charlie198, I think your buddy Mike might have just rushed it or used bad paste. Ngl, I've done this exact thing on a few pieces and not sealing them was actually fine because the paste itself had enough glue in it. Tbh, if you let it dry fully and use a good quality wheat paste with some extra binder like flour, it can hold up way longer than two weeks. I've got a piece on my garage wall that's been unsealed for over a year and it's only just starting to crack around the edges. It really depends on the surface you're sticking it to and if you press out all the air bubbles right.
