I finally gave that Japanese paper hinge method a real shot

For years I thought it was just a fancy look, but after a workshop at the Chicago Center for Book and Paper Arts, I tried it on a small journal. The way it lets the book open flat without stressing the spine is a total game changer. Has anyone else switched over to this style for their personal projects?

Yeah that workshop is legit, I took one there last year. I use the hinge on all my sketchbooks now, it's just so much better for laying the page flat.

Plus it just feels more professional, like a real artist's book. That flat surface changes the whole vibe when you're working.

Laying the page flat" is a total game changer. I read an article once about how it reduces strain on the binding over time. Makes a sketchbook last way longer.
