Serious question, has anyone else been surprised by a plant's hardiness?

I was sure my friend was wrong when she said her Monstera could handle my cold Denver porch for a night. After it survived a 40-degree drop with no damage, I had to admit she was right. What's a plant that proved you wrong about what it could handle?

Oh man, my snake plant. I called it a goner after I forgot it in a freezing car overnight (don't ask). That thing is still kicking, making me look like a bad plant parent.

Wait, so it just came back on its own? Did you have to cut off all the dead leaves or did new ones just pop up?
