Had a seagull steal a whole brick from a chimney stack in Brighton.
We were finishing a repair on a roof near the pier, and this bird just swooped down, grabbed a fresh facing brick right off the mortar board, and flew off with it. Now I always keep a tarp over the spares when working near the coast. Anyone else deal with wildlife messing with their materials?

Had a squirrel in Portland stash about two dozen roofing nails in a tree hollow. Found them when we were trimming branches the next week. Little guy was building his own hardware store up there.

Honestly that squirrel was probably planning a tiny home renovation. Tbh I'm just impressed he didn't try to steal a hammer next. Ngl, finding a hardware stash beats the usual acorn collection.

Wonder if the squirrel was actually using those nails for something specific. Maybe trying to reinforce the hollow against other animals? Did you notice any other odd building materials up there, or just the nails?
