Heard a coworker got the same comment at the self-checkout. She had two bags with milk, some chicken, and a few veggies. The person behind her said she must have a great job. She just held up the receipt that said eighty-two dollars and walked away.

Maybe the person behind her was just trying to be nice... not everyone means it in a bad way. Could have been a clumsy compliment.

Ugh, that comment is so out of touch. Groceries are just insanely expensive now, so a normal cart looks like a fortune. I bought basics last week, stuff like eggs and bread, and the total made me gasp. It's not about being rich at all, it's just the sad state of things. Your neighbor probably hasn't done a big shop in a while to see the real prices. Makes you want to show them the receipt.
