Update: My bean prep debate: dry for savings or canned for speed?

I started cooking dry beans to save money, but it takes forever compared to just opening a can. My buddy says the extra time is worth the cash saved, but my sister thinks time is too precious to spend on soaking and boiling. How do you balance time and cost in your kitchen?

Ugh, this makes me think of my family's big holiday food fights. My aunt swears by canned beans for her chili and says they taste fine, but my mom will spend all day doing dry ones because she says the texture is better. They get so worked up about it every year. Honestly I just buy whatever's on sale that week and call it good.

Buying whatever's on sale might be convenient, but your mom has a point. Dry beans give chili a much better texture, and holidays are worth the effort.

Don't turn beans into a holiday crisis.
