The week I saved $200 by eating street food in Bangkok

Last month I spent 7 days in Bangkok and barely touched a restaurant menu. I ate at street stalls for every meal and spent about $3 a day on food. One night I had the best pad thai of my life from a cart near Khao San Road for only 60 baht. The fried chicken place on Soi 11 gave me huge portions for like $1.50. My hotel breakfast cost more than my whole lunch did. Has anyone else found that street food cuts your travel budget way more than you'd expect?

dude yes, absolutely. I did the same thing in Ho Chi Minh City last year and it was wild how much I saved. I was getting these massive bowls of pho for like 80 cents and the banh mi sandwiches were so cheap I felt like I was stealing them. I remember one night I grabbed a plate of grilled pork and rice from this little lady with a cart for $1.20 and it was easily the best meal I had the whole trip. Hotels and tourist traps were charging ten times as much for food that wasn't even half as good.

I was reading this travel blog the other day and they said the same thing about Bangkok street food. Apparently the vendors use way fresher ingredients cause they're cooking for locals who know what's up, not just tourists passing through. Makes total sense with what you're saying about the pho.

My buddy Tim got a pork skewer in Chiang Mai for 30 baht and swore it was life changing.
