My car needed a $1,200 repair, so I chose to bike to work for a month instead.
The shop told me my transmission was starting to go, and the fix was more than I had in my emergency fund. I decided to put off the repair, dust off my old bike, and ride the 4 miles to my office in Portland every day. It was tough at first, but I saved the whole repair cost and felt a lot better. Has anyone else delayed a big expense with a temporary change that worked out well?

Wow, my friend skipped a gym membership for a year by just doing push-ups at home.

Imagine the money he saved for better food or new shoes.

So your friend only works on his front side for a whole year? That's a bold strategy. I guess he's going for that classic "chicken legs and a barrel chest" look. Hope he enjoys opening every door with his face because his back muscles will have quit. Honestly, skipping the gym is fine but maybe mix in a squat or two.

My buddy actually did this for like 8 months once, just pushups and situps at home. He said it saved him a ton of money but man his legs looked like twigs compared to his upper body lol. I get why people wanna save cash, gym memberships are expensive and sometimes you just gotta work with what you got. But honestly even doing bodyweight squats or lunges at home would help balance things out a bit. I feel for him though, not everyone has the time or money to hit the gym regularly. As long as he's happy with his progress that's what counts.
