My grocery bill used to be $200 a week, now it's under $100
I mean, I used to just wander the aisles at Safeway and grab whatever looked good, no list or anything. Then I started planning five meals on Sunday and only buying those exact items, plus basics like milk. It cut my spending in half after the first month, idk why I waited so long. Has anyone else tried meal planning with a strict list and seen a big drop?

My buddy was the same way, just grabbing random stuff at the store. He finally sat down and planned out lunches for his whole work week. He told me it was like @abbyf79 said, cutting out the extra chips and cookies he'd just toss in the cart made a huge difference. His bill went from around $150 to maybe $80, just for those workday meals.

Meal planning sounds like a prison sentence for your taste buds though. What if you see amazing fresh peaches or a new sauce you want to try? Sticking to a list kills all the fun and spontaneity of cooking. My best meals come from grabbing what looks good that day and getting creative. Saving money is nice but not if it turns grocery shopping into a boring chore.
