A customer in my store said my dovetail jig was 'cheating' and it still bugs me
He was looking at a project I brought in, a small cherry box, and pointed at the joints. He said, 'Real cabinetmakers cut those by hand, you know.' It happened right by the tool rental counter last Tuesday. What's the dumbest thing someone has said about your work?

Real cabinetmakers cut those by hand" is such a weird thing to say to someone. Did he think he was giving you a helpful tip or was he just trying to make you feel bad?

Maybe he just meant well, sean48. Some folks get stuck on the "right" way to do things without meaning to put you down.

Ugh, that's the worst kind of comment. It's not even about the quality of your work, it's just someone trying to gatekeep the hobby. I bet that box looked great. People get weirdly hung up on tools being "pure" instead of just being happy someone made something cool.
