My brother asked why I still check job boards at 9pm and I didn't have a good answer
He said it at dinner on Sunday in front of my wife, and it sat with me all week. I spend maybe 6 hours a week scrolling listings for jobs I would not even take. Does anyone else job hunt out of pure habit? What finally got you to stop?
Honestly your brother did you a favor and you're mad about it. Six hours a week is a part time job you're not even getting paid for, and you're using it to look at stuff you'd never take. That's like walking through a grocery store you have no plans to buy from. The fix is simple, block the sites on your phone after 7pm and let the urge die. You won't miss it, you'll just have six hours back to do literally anything else.
Six hours a week sounds like a lot until you realize most of it is probably five minutes here and there while you're sitting on the couch or waiting in line, not some big block of time. I've done the same thing with car listings and camping gear, browsing stuff I had zero plans to buy, and blocking the sites at 7pm just pushed it to 8am the next day. The real question is whether it's actually costing him anything he cares about. If his work and sleep are fine and he's not going broke, calling it a part time job feels like a stretch.
