Over drove a nail into a stud yesterday and split the whole thing clean down the middle

I was framing a wall in my buddy's basement and figured a 16 gauge finish nail would be fine but the stud cracked from top to bottom, has anyone else wrecked a stud by using too much gun pressure or is it just me?

12 foot stud or something like that?

Man I was dealing with the SAME thing last year and honestly what finally worked for me was just grabbing a 12 foot 2x6 from the lumber yard. I know it sounds overkill but it gave me enough wiggle room to cut it down to EXACTLY what I needed without having to sister anything. Had to special order it though, my local place didn't stock it. Took about a week to come in but it was totally worth not having to mess with joining two shorter pieces together.
