Found an old invoice from my first year installing and the price per yard was a shock
I was sorting through a box of old papers in the garage and came across a job sheet from 1998 for a whole house in Bakersfield. The bill shows we charged $3.25 per yard for a basic nylon loop pile, and I just saw the same stuff at the supplier for over $12. How do you even explain that kind of jump to a customer now?

Check the invoice for labor, not just materials.

My friend got a bill for a new roof last year. The materials were listed clearly, but the labor line just said "installation" with a huge number next to it. When she asked for a breakdown, it turned out they charged for a full crew for three days when only two guys showed up for two. That math adds up fast.

Seriously, how do you even start that conversation without sounding like you're accusing them? Do you just ask for the crew's daily time sheets, or what?
