Just remembered that week in '08 when we did a whole apartment complex in Phoenix with that old-school woven wool

The heat was brutal, but the material was so forgiving to work with, you could almost stretch it by hand. Anyone still run into that stuff, or is it all synthetic now?

Forgiving? That stuff was a nightmare to bind. The wool would soak up the Arizona humidity overnight and sag like crazy by noon. We had to come back and re-stretch every single unit. Give me a modern synthetic any day, it stays put.

Oh man, that totally makes sense. I read an article once about how wool insulation in old buildings out west was a constant fight. They said in places like New Mexico, crews would have to time installations for the dry season only. If they got it even a little damp during the summer, the whole batch would buckle and pull away from the studs within a week. Sounds like a total pain compared to stuff that just goes up and stays put.

Watched a crew in Tucson lose a whole wall to damp wool.
