Finally got a 30 day net payer down to 15 days after 6 months

I kept sending polite reminders with a link to pay online, but the real trick was adding a 2% discount if they paid within 10 days. Has anyone else tried offering a tiny discount and had it backfire?

2% discount just trains slow payers to wait 10 days for the reward.

Did you ever worry they'd just wait for the 10 days and still take the discount? I tried a similar trick with my old landlord for rent payments. Gave him 5% off if he paid the utility bill within a week. For three months straight he paid on day 9, then around month four he started paying on day 15 but still asked for the discount. Had to kill the whole thing because he kept testing boundaries. Now I just charge a flat 15 dollar late fee and call it a day.

He paid on day 9 for three months and still pushed it to day 15? That's wild, like he was literally counting down the seconds to see how far he could bend the rule before you snapped. People really do test every single boundary you set, don't they. Flat fee sounds like the only way to keep your sanity with that kind of nonsense.
