My sister and I argue over who makes the best pasta sauce, but it's made us better cooks
I've seen more families getting into cooking battles at home lately. My sister and I always fight over whose pasta sauce is better, with her adding fresh basil and me roasting garlic. This rivalry pushed us to try new recipes and techniques. We end up swapping secrets, like how long to simmer the sauce. It turns our kitchen into a fun, noisy place where we both learn. I bet other chefs deal with similar stuff from their own families. It shows how cooking can bring people together, even with a bit of competition.

Do they ever swap the secret stuff or is it pure competition lol? Like does his dad ever hint at the lime thing?

Honestly that "excuse to hang out" part is so true. My family does this thing with pho broth where my uncles argue about star anise amounts every holiday. They pretend to guard their secrets but I've seen them swap bags of spices when they think no one is looking.

Nah, they're totally still trying to win... ask @lee582's dad.

My cousin Carlos and his dad have this whole salsa war going on every Sunday. They both claim their recipe is the real deal from Guadalajara. It started with just tomatoes and onions, but now Carlos adds like three kinds of dried chilies and his dad uses a secret lime trick. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like they're not even trying to win anymore, they just want an excuse to hang out in the backyard arguing over the blender.
