I thought those new flexible chimney rods were just a gimmick

For years I stuck with my old solid steel rods, thinking anything bendy would just snap or get stuck. Then I had a job on a big old Victorian in Savannah last month with a chimney that had two 45 degree bends. My boss made me try his new set of Flexi-Clean rods, and I was sure it was a waste of time. But man, they went right around those corners like nothing. The fiberglass core didn't kink, and the brush head kept turning the whole way. I cleaned that flue in half the time it would have taken to try and muscle my old rods through. It completely changed how I look at jobs with tricky layouts. What other tools did you guys think were junk until you actually gave them a real try?

Flexible spatulas, right @joseph_green13? Game changer.

Your "waste of time" comment hits home, I felt the same until a flexible spatula saved my bacon on a busy grill.

My old metal one bent for good on a thick burger last summer.
