Just cleaned my 500th chimney and the number hit me different

I was updating my logbook last night, adding a job from a house in Bellingham, and the total hit 500. It's just a number, but it made me stop and think. That's 500 fireplaces I've looked up, 500 sets of flue tiles I've checked for cracks, 500 piles of creosote I've hauled out. I remember number one, a little brick ranch, and how nervous I was about getting the brush stuck. Now, the routine is just in my hands, you know? The weird part is, it doesn't feel like a grind. It feels like I've built something, one sooty chimney at a time. Has anyone else had a milestone number that made you look back on the work in a new way?

Sometimes the simple things are the deepest.

My grandpa hit 1,000 and said the same thing.
