Switched to a shop vac with a HEPA filter for cleaning soot and it made a huge difference

I always used my regular vacuum on chimneys until last week when I sucked up some fine ash and it blew right back into my face. Picked up a HEPA filter for my Shop-Vac on Tuesday and the air stays clean now. Anyone else make that switch or still running standard filters?

Yeah, I made the switch after accidentally cosplaying as a chimney sweep in my living room.

Oh man, @david_walker97, I felt that in my soul! I lit a candle once and had the exact same thing happen - soot everywhere, looked like I crawled out of a Victorian novel. At least we upgraded our home security with those smoke detectors, right?

Bet you didn't know some candles have metal cores in the wicks that can release toxic stuff when they burn, that soot might be more nasty than just messy.
