Had a client tell me my $1500 logo looked 'like a kid made it in MS Paint'

They emailed me a list of 12 other logos they liked, all from huge brands with massive design teams, and said I should 'aim for that level'. I've been second-guessing my whole style since then. How do you bounce back from a client just totally trashing your creative work?

Man that client sounds clueless. Comparing a $1500 job to Apple's branding is like complaining your Honda Civic isn't a Ferrari. Their feedback is useless because it's not even about your work, it's about their unrealistic expectations. Maybe your style just wasn't a fit for them, which happens. Did they even give you specific notes on what to change, or just vague insults?

Ugh that's the worst! I had a client compare my website mockup to a Geocities page once, it totally wrecked my confidence for a week. Comparing a solo designer to a whole corporate team is just unfair.

But you know what, @wadejenkins? That Geocities dig is kind of a backhanded compliment when you think about it. Those old pages had personality and were built by hand, not some corporate template. Maybe the client was actually saying your work felt unique, just in a really rude way.
