Unpopular opinion: I started reading comics out of order and it actually helped
I was stuck trying to read every X-Men issue from the 60s, but after 3 issues I got bored. So I just grabbed 'God Loves, Man Kills' and it hooked me way faster than the old stuff ever did.

Oh man, I feel this so hard... Trying to read everything in order is a trap. You just burn out before you get to the good parts. Jumping right to a famous story is the way to go... it gives you the characters at their best. Then if you like it, you can always go back and see where they started.

Yeah, totally. I did the same thing with X-Men, tried to read from the 60s and it was a slog. Then a buddy just handed me the Dark Phoenix Saga trade and I was hooked overnight. After that, going back to see the early stuff with the original team felt like a fun history lesson instead of homework. You're spot on, @blair_torres70, starting with the peak stuff is the best intro.

Tell you what, I tried the "start at the beginning" thing with Spider-Man... made it about five issues in before the old-timey dialogue did me in. Switched to the Kraven's Last Hunt story and it was like a whole different world... felt pretty dumb for forcing myself through the boring stuff first.
