Just realized my old dive knife was slowing me down on every salvage job

Switched to a smaller, blunt-tip model after a job in Mobile Bay last month and the difference in snagging on lines and hoses is huge. Anyone have a favorite brand for heavy river current work?

Hold up, you're ditching a proper dive knife? That's a safety step back. A sharp point is crucial for cutting tangled line in a hurry, especially in heavy current where seconds count. My old Benchmade saved me more than once getting free from monofilament. A blunt tip just bounces off.

My buddy in the Keys swears by a blunt tip after he almost stabbed his thigh reaching for it in rough surf. A sharp point is great for line but a real risk if you're fighting current and panic sets in. Sometimes a safer tool that still cuts is the smarter move.

Honestly this whole debate reminds me of how people stick with tools that make them feel safe, even when they're not the best for the job. We get told a sharp point is the only real dive knife, so we ignore how often it causes its own problems, like getting caught or being a danger to you. It's like using a giant wrench for every bolt just because it's heavy duty, when a smaller one would actually work faster and safer. The right tool changes based on the actual conditions, not just the old rules.
