Update: I saw a crew in Phoenix pour a huge slab without any control joints
This was about three months ago on a commercial job site. They were finishing a 40 by 60 foot warehouse floor and the foreman told me, 'We never cut joints, we just let it crack naturally and patch it later.' I was shocked. I've always been taught you need to cut control joints within 24 hours to manage the cracking. They argued it saved them half a day of labor and the client didn't care. I think that's a terrible long-term practice that gives our trade a bad name. Has anyone else run into crews skipping this basic step to save time?

Honestly, I've seen that method work fine on some big box store floors. They just cut and seal the cracks later and it's never been a problem.

Oh perfect, the "wait for it to break" method. Real high standards there.

Yeah, that's the "fix it later" business plan.
