That buddy who told me the moon landing was fake back in 99

I had this friend, Mike, from high school in Tulsa. He kept going on and on about how the moon landing was staged, saying the flag waving proved it. At the time I just laughed it off, but about 10 years later I actually looked into the radiation belt argument he mentioned. Turns out he was quoting some pretty shaky stuff, but it did get me curious about how NASA explains it. Now I just think it's wild how that one conversation stuck with me for over 20 years. Has anyone else had a friend who handed them a rabbit hole they still can't shake?

Used to think people like that were just looking for attention or wanted to feel smarter than everyone else. Honestly, I kinda judged my roommate for going deep into the JFK stuff back in college. But then I finally sat down and watched that whole 9/11 commission hearing thing a few years ago, and I remember thinking "wait, that doesn't add up." I'm still not one of those people with a corkboard or anything, but I get now why someone would want to dig deeper. It's less about believing it's fake and more about feeling like the official story skips over some pretty big questions. Kinda humbling to admit I was wrong about the people who question stuff.

God YES I had this friend in college named Derek who was OBSESSED with the JFK assassination. He had this whole corkboard in his dorm room with photos and string connecting everything. I thought he was just a weirdo but then I spent like three hours one night reading about the magic bullet theory and now I can't watch any documentary about it without getting suspicious. It's like once you open that door you can't really close it all the way. The worst part is I still catch myself questioning stuff I see on the news and I blame him completely for ruining my ability to just trust things.

@cora813 hit it right on the head. Once you learn about that magic bullet thing, you can't unsee it. I had a buddy who got deep into this stuff too, and he told me the best move is to pick one thing and really dig into it instead of trying to follow every thread. Like reading the actual Warren Commission report or looking at the Zapruder film yourself. Most people just repeat what someone else told them. If you're gonna question stuff, at least do it right.
