Hit 500 haircuts this week and it hit me different than I expected
I was just going through my appointment book on Tuesday and realized I've done 500 haircuts since I started at Shear Beauty Salon in Austin two years ago. That number surprised me because I never thought of myself as someone who had that much experience yet. It made me think about how much I've improved since my first haircut there that took me almost an hour. Has anyone else just randomly hit a milestone like that and felt kind of proud about it?

The funny thing about hitting milestones like that is how they sneak up on you. You just keep showing up and doing the work, then one day you look back and realize you've leveled up without even noticing.

Hang on though, I gotta push back on that a little. The big jumps in skill don't really feel invisible to me. They feel painfully obvious in the moment because you're struggling through something new and every mistake is right there in your face. It's only later, when you're looking back, that you forget how hard that part was. Kinda like how nobody remembers the bad practice days, right? So it's not that they sneak up on you, it's that your brain is really good at erasing the sucky parts once you're done with them. Just saying, the struggle was real the whole time.

That "leveled up without even noticing" part really got me. It's weird how the big jumps in skill feel invisible until something forces you to look back at where you started.
