Seeing clients ask for full coverage foundation for everyday wear makes me miss the light touch

When I began my career, we taught clients to let their skin breathe. A little concealer here, a dab of powder there. Now, everyone wants a mask-like finish that covers every pore. I recall doing makeup for prom in the early 2000s, and the aim was to look natural under flash photos. These days, it's all about matte perfection that looks good on camera but feels heavy in real life. I think we're losing the skill of subtle enhancement. As artists, we should guide clients towards what flatters them, not just what's trending. It's annoying when someone insists on a look that doesn't suit their face. Maybe I'm old school, but I believe makeup should celebrate what you have, not hide it.

Is it that full coverage trend from social media? I heard some people just copy what looks good on camera without adjusting for real life.

That "mask-like finish" thing is real. My friend did the full coverage trend last year and in daylight it just sat on her skin like paint. She actually went back to her light base after seeing how much better it moved with her face.
