Had a reader tell me my dialogue sounded like a robot and they were right
Someone commented on a story I posted in a writing group that every character talked exactly the same way. I got defensive at first because I thought my dialogue was fine. But then I went back and read my last three chapters out loud and wow, they were right. Every single character used the same sentence structure and vocab. So I spent a week rewriting all their conversations with different speech patterns based on their backgrounds. Anyone else have a critique that hurt at first but actually made your writing way better?
