I used to ignore my credit score until I got denied for a $500 store card in 2022, but now I check my Experian report every single month.

Getting that denial letter was a huge wake-up call, so I set a calendar reminder and now I'm way more on top of my payment history and credit utilization, which has helped me get better rates-what's the one thing you all do to keep your credit in check?

I got a Capital One card with a $300 limit after my own denial. I pay it off twice a month to keep the reported balance low.

But why bother paying it twice a month? Isn't that just extra work for no real gain? The credit bureaus only see your statement balance anyway. You could just pay it once when the bill comes and get the same result. All that extra effort seems pointless.

Keeps my spending in check, honestly. When I pay twice a month, I'm way less likely to let the balance creep up close to the limit. It's just a mental thing for me, helps me stay on top of it.
