Overheard a guy at the hardware store bragging he uses the same password for everything

He was buying a smart lock and said it was fine because his password was 'complicated'. I mean, that's how you get your whole digital life cleaned out if one site gets breached. Has anyone actually gotten a family member to start using a password manager?

But is it really that big of a deal for most people? @blair990's dad only changed after a hack, so maybe the risk feels too far off.

Yeah, that's the whole problem... it feels far off until it isn't. I read this article where a security guy said most people reuse the same password everywhere, so one dumb recipe forum getting hacked means someone now has the key to your email. Then they can reset everything else. It's not just about the lock itself, it's about all the other accounts tied to that same login. My cousin had her Instagram taken over that way because she used the same password on some old game site. Once it's gone, it's a huge pain to get it all back.

Imagine buying a smart lock with that mindset. The lock is only as strong as the weakest website he used that password on. Getting my dad to use a manager took years of his favorite sports site getting hacked.
