Wasted $250 on a password manager I never really needed

I signed up for a three year plan with Dashlane back in 2021 because everyone said it was essential. Turns out the free features in my browser already did 90% of what I wanted, so I basically paid for a fancy dashboard I looked at twice. Has anyone else dumped money into security tools that ended up being overkill?

Tbh I made more security mistakes by forgetting the master password than I ever prevented.

River's experience is valid, but I've had the opposite happen way more often. For example, I used the same simple password for years across multiple sites after giving up on remembering different ones. That one got leaked in a data breach, and someone tried logging into my email with it. Since switching to a manager, I just have one master password to remember, and I write it down on paper in my wallet as a backup. The key is having a recovery method so you don't lock yourself out. So in my case, the manager has prevented way more trouble than it's caused.

And the one time I did lock myself out of my manager, I spent three days resetting passwords manually. Ended up keeping a sticky note on my monitor for a month after that.
