Called BS on injector cleaning services until I pulled a set off a 6.7 Powerstroke last Tuesday

Guy comes in complaining about rough idle and loss of power. I figured it was a bad injector or two. Pulled them and they were caked in carbon. Sent them to a shop that does the ultrasonic cleaning and flow testing. $45 each. Put em back in and the thing runs smooth as silk. Been a diesel guy for 12 years and always thought cleaning was a scam. Guess I was wrong. Anyone else had luck with this or was it just a fluke?

Honestly, is a little carbon really that big of a deal or are we overthinking this?

Hold on, let me play devil's advocate here. You probably just got lucky and those injectors were already on their last leg, with the cleaning buying you a few months before they really fail.

So you're betting against $180 and a year of good running?

Michael's got a point but look at it this way. Those injectors were already clogged bad enough to cause a rough idle and power loss. Even if they only last another year, that's a year of smooth running you wouldn't have had. Most guys I know just swap them out and toss the old ones. But you spent $180 on cleaning and got a good result. What's the downside? Even if they fail sooner than brand new ones, you're still ahead on money. Plus you got to see firsthand that the carbon was the real issue, not a dead injector. That's a learning experience right there.
