I picked a $50 tablet instead of a $500 one for my digital art
I had to choose between a cheap Huion tablet and a proper Wacom when I started last year. Went with the Huion for $50 and honestly it's been fine for learning in Austin. Has anyone else saved cash on gear and still made decent art?

Yeah, I feel you on that. "It's been fine for learning" is exactly the thing. I see this pattern all the time with hobbies and tools, not just art stuff. Like I bought a cheap pair of running shoes for $30 last year just to see if i'd stick with jogging around the park, and three months in theyre still holding up fine. Same with my kitchen knives, got a $15 set from the grocery store that works way better than any expensive set id ever used before. I think we get sold this idea you need top tier gear to start something, but half the time the cheap stuff just gets the job done while you figure out if you even like the thing.

Oh totally, I got a ten dollar cast iron pan at a thrift store and it's been perfect for years.

Yeah man, that whole "you need the expensive stuff" thing is such a trap. I've seen too many people drop serious cash on pro tools before they even know if they'll stick with the hobby. Good for you for going cheap first.
