My 2019 iPad Pro sketch dump still gets more likes than my latest stuff

I was scrolling through my DeviantArt page last night and noticed a sketch I did three years ago in a coffee shop in Austin has 2,400 views. My recent stuff with all the fancy brushes and layers barely breaks 200. Honestly makes me wonder if I'm overthinking things now compared to back then. Anyone else find their older, rougher work connects better with people?

Got a buddy who's a decent guitarist who told me he recorded his first EP on a cracked phone mic in his garage and it blew up online, but his studio stuff with all the expensive gear just sits there. He said the raw energy in those early recordings captured something real that he can't seem to fake now, even with all the fancy tools. Sometimes that messy, unpolished vibe just hits people different.

Yeah the "raw energy" thing is real. I read somewhere that lo-fi stuff blows up because people can hear the room and the imperfections and it feels like they're there in the moment with the artist. There's this whole psychology behind it where polished stuff can feel too sterile or fake, like it's trying too hard. Your buddy probably lost that when he started overthinking everything with the expensive gear. It's like the difference between a live show and a music video, one just hits different for most people.

Whoa, maybe people just miss seeing the mistakes that made it feel human.
