Co-working space in Bali nearly got me scammed out of $400

I was working from a co-working spot in Ubud last month when a guy walked up and started pitching this 'exclusive digital nomad insurance.' I almost handed over $400 on the spot because he looked legit and had fake testimonials. Luckily, I asked the front desk about him and they told me he'd been banned from three other spaces on the island. Now I always verify every service through the local community WhatsApp group before paying anyone. Has anyone else run into these fake insurance folks in popular nomad spots?

Yeah that's wild. I heard about some guy running the same scam in Chiang Mai too, they change the name every few months but it's always the same pitch. Good call checking with the front desk first.

Exactly, @kevinw94, those groups are annoying until they save you four hundred bucks.

Wait, didn't you used to think those WhatsApp groups were just full of people complaining about nothing? Because same here until I almost lost $400. Now I get why everyone's always posting warnings in them.
