I thought those cheap laser levels from Harbor Freight were total junk.

My buddy gave me one as a joke when I started framing a shed last fall. I figured it would drift or break after a week. Used it to hang cabinets in my kitchen remodel last month, and the line stayed dead straight for over six hours. I even dropped it off the ladder onto concrete, and it still works fine. What's the most surprisingly decent tool you've picked up for under twenty bucks?

Dropped it on concrete? No way.

Remember how some companies use special rubber or plastic in the frame now. That stuff can hide a lot of damage, so the outside looks fine but the inside is totally wrecked.

Totally get what you're saying. I mean, my old phone looked perfect after a drop, but then the screen just went black a week later. The repair guy said the shock from hitting the ground messed up something inside the screen, even with a case on. It's wild how the damage can be totally hidden like that. Makes you wonder how many "mystery" broken phones are actually from old drops.
