The lumber yard on 5th Street sold me warped 2x4s and didn't care

I went to McCarthy Lumber last Tuesday to grab wood for a simple raised garden bed. Grabbed 6 boards that looked fine on top, but when I got home and laid them flat, three had a serious twist in them. Took them back the next morning and the guy at the counter shrugged and said "that's kind of what you get with framing lumber these days." Has anyone else dealt with a supplier passing off junk like it's normal? I'm thinking of switching to the place on River Road but want to know if their stock is any better.

Oh man that stinks. I had the same thing happen at the lumber yard by my house and I started just bringing a level with me to check boards in the parking lot before I even pay. It feels a little extra but saves you a trip back and from that guy's attitude.

Man that is frustrating! I once bought "straight" lumber at a big box store and ended up building a birdhouse that looked like a Picasso painting, so I feel your pain. Honestly that guy at the counter sounds like he didn't want to deal with it, bad customer service is half the problem. I haven't tried the River Road spot yet but I've heard they actually sort through their piles before putting them out. Have you checked their yard on a weekday morning when the new shipment comes in?

River Road on a weekday morning is the move for sure lol, I showed up there at 7am once and still managed to grab a 2x4 that looked more like a boomerang than a board.
