Just realized a trick for painting window trim without taping everything

I was painting my living room in my old Chicago apartment and got fed up with taping the glass, so I used a putty knife as a shield. Has anyone else tried something like this or have a better method?

Way faster" sounds good until you mess up and spend hours cleaning paint off glass.

Oh man, "used to tape everything" hits home. I was the exact same way, swore by my old method for years. Then I tried the new way and it felt like a lightbulb went off. The speed difference is honestly shocking, I can't imagine going back now. It just makes everything so much simpler.

My last apartment had twelve huge windows and taping them took me a full Saturday. I started using an old credit card as a scraper shield and it cut the time in half. You get such a clean line if you keep the blade wet and wipe it off between passes. It feels like a cheat code compared to all that careful taping. I'm never going back to the old way.
