Overheard a contractor at the hardware store say he uses a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water to clean grout lines. Anyone tried that on old bathroom tile?

That vinegar mix works, but it can eat away at old grout if it's already crumbling.

Oh man, that's so true... I learned that the hard way in my last house. The grout in the shower was already a little soft, and that vinegar mix just made it worse... it started flaking out in little chunks. I had to go back and re-grout a whole section, which was a huge pain.

Sounds like you and @matthew_walker both learned the hard way that vinegar is a bit too good at cleaning.
